For the last nine years I've been involved in one major project for the Architectural firm that I work for. It's the American Airlines Terminal #8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Yesterday I printed the last of the "As-Built" drawings and burned them to a CD for the Port Authority submittal. My part of the project is essentially over.

Nine Years.

I've seen the project from initial design through completion. 9/11 changed things, as did the following slump in air travel. Only 1.6 million of the proposed 2.2 million square feet have been built. The rest MAY be built, but not right away. I hope I will be involved.

I'm in demand up in the Connecticut office. I'm not worried about my job security. It just feels weird to be done with the project that has occupied about one third of my working career and 17% of my life.

Congrats on the completion of the project. I do have some sense of what it feels like having somewhat experienced the same thing when I left my IT position to do what I'm doing now. That had been something on the order of 10-18 years depending on whether I count the pre full time position part. It is a very odd feeling but one that carries a good bit of pride in a job well done.

Wow!

I don't want to say that it's been a long standing joke between the two of us that I've just stopped asking you the one or two times we see each other a year, "Hey! Wha'chya working on?"

But Wow!

First, what an accomplishment. I'm pretty sure I don't have the attention span to handle a 19 year long project. Kudos to you!

Second, RUN!! Now's your chance! Get out of architecture and find a job where you'll get some respect, appreciation and better pay! :D

Third, If...if I should happen to see you at AC and ask, "So, how's the airport job coming along?" Feel free to kick me in the shins. :D Course, now that I said that, I must just do it for kicks. (Pun intended.) LOL

Glad to hear the project is over. I hope you're looking forward to something new!

*Hugs*
